Fuel Economy Tip: Shift your S4 short for better fuel economy...
...I've been trying to extract better fuel economy out of my 2001 S4 Avant (heh, fuel economy and S4 are oxymorons, I know...).
With a close eye on the fuel economy display in the trip computer, I've found that being gentle with the throttle and up shifting my 6 speed at or around 2000 rpm (whilst selecting a gear that always maintains revs at or above 1500 rpm and that always maintains sufficient revs to avoid lugging the engine) really helps the fuel economy for city driving when desired.
Of course, sometimes nothing short of full throttle and a run to redline will do...
With premium inching up over $2.00 per gallon, those Honda Civic Hybrids are starting to look real pretty at the pump...

Question about fuel economy
sometimes I'm on the freeway in 6th and I'm barely above 2000 rps, and my fuel economy meter says 17 mpg or 21 mpg. I'm totally stock, and I'm trying to figure out how to get better mileage.
Which is more important when wanting the most mpg's: using the highest gear possible (without falling below 1500rpm) or pressing the throttle/accelerator the lightest (in a lower gear)??? (I feel like I get the best mileage when i'm around 3K rpm)
TIA
