Help -- New 1st Gear Syncro, and still can't get into gear.
#11
Now I'm at a loss. My car occasionally doesn't want to engage a higher gear at rest, --->
---> but others will and, after rowing around the gears a bit, the balky gear engages freely. This all has to do with the pointed engagement flutes opposing each other.
Now that you have discovered this behavior, are you maybe testing it more? How many times have you engaged 5th gear at rest before?
I'd tell the dealer, but drive the car for a while to see whether the tranny wears in.

thanks for the advice....updates within
Took the car to the dealer, they acknowledged the problem after road tests with both the mechanic who performed the syncro work and the shop foreman. The foreman noticed not only the failure to engage, but a general feeling of misalignment of the shift linkage throughout all gears. They are currently aligning the shift linkage. I will pick up the car tomorrow and let you know how it turns out. FYI, the tech said it is understandable that the car would not always successfully engage a higher gear at rest; and as you imply, that is not a pressing concern. We agreed, thankfully that first gear, should engage every time.
