Odd pulsing-noise in right rear tire well - anyone help here?
Saturday was a bit warm (~90* and 80% humidity) and drove for about an hour out to some hiking trails. When I got there, let the car idle for about 3-4 minutes to let the turbos cool a bit while I put on boots and got pack situated. After I turned the car off, I heard the weird pulsing noise that had me a bit concerned. Here is how I can describe it:
Location: Loudest near passenger rear tire well
Loudness: Rather subtle, about 25% of the car lock notification, maybe less
Sound: Somewhat like the car lock notification, but a bit more drawn out. Where the car lock notification is short, this was about 3-4 times as long, and was more of a wave than the staccato "brrp" of the car lock notification. Was also a 2-3 second pause between pulses.
Can anyone help here? I did not get any codes or alerts. I'm a bit concerned. Thanks in advanceā¦.

I have the same thing, especially hot days. Suspect it's a leak in the evaporative emissions system.
I haven't looked for where it's coming from. It's nothing to be too worried aobut. I first noticed it last summer.
If anyone has had this problem and successfully tracked it down, I'd appreciate the info too.

Might be your lock pump. VAG the central locking module.
If you get the "run time exceeded" code, that's a failing pump. STFA for "kenobi lock pump" for some pictures and a discussion. Not much to be done other than replacing the pump itself for $500.

Normal. Out gassing from the fuel tank vent.
On hot days, the pressure increases inside the tank. A pressure relief valve that will bleed gas off into the atmosphere, to keep the pressure in the tank within a specified range.
