Default Started car and then it went dead right away - now I get no power.

So basically I was starting my car to go to work this morning and it started right up (installed a new battery a month ago), but then died about 1 second later. It was as if someone disconnected the battery while the car was running. Now nothing turns on at all. I turn the key and no lights go on. I checked the battery and the terminals, all is fine there.

What could it be?

Is it an aftermarket battery or oe? MAke sure the terminals are tight and apply some dielectric paste

The terminals are tight and clean. There is NO power going to the car at all. I would expect at least lights to go on if this were an issue.

Is it possible an important relay or fuse blew or is it probably more serious?

the battery only is used for starting the car and then for accessories. You could really start the car and then disconnect the battery and the car will be running fine. If it dies after you disconnect the battery it means the alternator does not provide enough "juice".
When you replaced the battery did you have the whole system tested and everything was fine besides the battery?

No, when I replaced the battery it had been 8 years on the same battery so I assumed it was time. How can I check the alternator? Would a faulty alternator give me no power to the car? I thought the alternator was primarily used for recharging the battery once the car was running?

When I turn the key in the ignition, absolutely nothing turns on.
