You can check secondary air with your new VAG-COM cable clear the codes, the car needs to be warmed up, go to measuring blocks and select 077, then switch to basic settings and the test should run. You have an air pump towards the back of the engine and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. It's possible it doesn't work or the tee between the combi valve lines is broken but seriously, make sure the diverter valves hold vacuum first. And don't just go and replace stuff, test it first.

I've seen tons of those torque converter codes and a few front seals going bad due to it. When that happens it spits out all the fluid and it's bad news. Honestly I would recommend doing it ASAP because I don't want to be someone that said you could drive it and in 5 days it blows up

You still need to check the cam timing because the car can see the driver side cam and crank aren't lined up (according to the code). Was the timing belt done before you bought it? Could of had cam tensioner malfunctions due to no oil too? Those can be tested in VAG-COM also, around block 097 or something... Clear the codes and see what comes back up right away.

Ok, so i cleared the codes (yesterday and have put 10 miles on her since) and vagged it and while i was vagging it i could not hear any vacuum noise coming from the rear of the engine... i think the pump might be dead. here is what the test says:

Ill do some research on these forums to see how to test the dv's for leaks and get back on that... (probably need to get some evo ms dv's anyways (unless there is another make that is better/same and less costly)

The car is really clean (interior looks brand new, black on black, 2 owner, first owner had it till 70k and second owner gave it to me at 95K. It now has 96K (put 1K on it in a week). The second owner told me that he replaced the turbo valves? He also gave me a maintenance sheet that is from 6/2006 and 52K miles that says:

"Complaint: AC Stil Inop Check History"

"AC was working until the coolant temp sensor came on"

"Cause"

"Replace stuck closed thermostat, and timing belt water pump kit"

So im not sure if that means the timing belt was done... im not sure?

When I first bought the car in chicago and drove it 250 miles home (marion, indiana) there was a slight imbalance in the engine that was noticeable from about 15 mph - 50mph (the check engine light came on about 50 miles into the trip home). I didnt notice any other issues in the feel/drivability of the car. I then set out on a 50 mile trip (to my bank..lol...silly, i know but that what happens when you live in the sticks)... and as soon as I got on the highway there was a big imbalance in the engine that increases directly with speed increase. So i pulled over, called my service adviser (I also have a tt) and told him it felt like a drive shaft was about to fly out of the car (thats what happened in my landcuiser so thats how i know what that feels like)...

So he said it was probably some snow stuck in the tires (from when i was playing around/testing the all wheel drive) and that it should probably go away. So I drove it cause i really had to get to the bank and it went away.

5 days have passed now and out of those 5 days, i noticed a slight imbalance (3/10ths of the imbalance compared to when i pulled over to call the stealer). so its intermittent and varied in imbalance.

One other thing worth mentioning... when I park in the garage, i get a suddle/not strong burnt clutch smell... and am assuming its the torque converter.

Anyways. Sorry for the long post... just trying to be descriptive. I really appreciate any expertise/insight.

I guess the fact that the trans code didnt come up in 10 miles is a good sign?

I noticesd you mentioning that you "see codes all the time"... does that mean your a mechanic or just a non commissioned forum help desk associate? lol. just curious and big big thank you.

Your secondary air readiness passed so there might not be an issue with the secondary air.

The torque converter fault will come back in another 40 miles or so.

Timing belt was probably done at that time but something is definitely wrong with either timing or the driver side cam position sensor.

Don't know about the imbalance and the clutch smell could be brakes or cam tensioner seals leaking? And yeah, I work on cars some, just happen to be bored tonight...
