Default A4 Diesel

Does anybody have any reasonably reliable info as to when they will put the small TDI engine into the A4? I'm drooling over a beautiful red A4 2.0 Avant at my dealers but am reluctant because I really want the diesel. Its got to happen, the only question is when!

The road ahead for the Audi A4 model line up to receive the 2.0 TDI engines will require the adoption of the full blown Bluetec emission strategy I believe. The current 2.0 TDI 140hp version, as fitted in the USA VW Jetta line up and soon Audi A3 Sportback, etc uses a proprietary VW/Bosch regenerative emission arrangement; as such no required Adblue urea maintenance.
Once a 2.0 TDI motor is positioned in the A4 model line I'd think it would be smooth sailing for several other shared VW and Audi chassis's.
I’d be the first in line for an A4 Kombi with the 170 hp ver., 2.0 TDI mated to the 7sp DSG….. Could happen! (The 3.0 TDI quattro w/ 7sp DSG would be the ****.)

Let's keep in mind, Audi USA should anyway, that MB has a new 2.?(something) liter 4 cyl diesel motor with great power. The competition is knocking.<O</O

AudiWorld.... I give up - how to invoke the edit/post function? Checked the "User CP" in addition to emailing you folks, receiving no answer.

Default 2.0 TDI Bluetec without AdBlue (urea)

The last update I received was the A3 2.0TDI and/or A4 (may be the 3.0TDI only) by the end of 2009 or early 2010 (the A3 may be first), though after many sliding release dates Audi has been pushing the dates earlier, as late as March the official ETA for Q7 TDI was Fall 2009 (originally it was Fall 2008), but they shipped in April 09.
We also need to see the Q5 3.0 TDI from the Audi Mileage Marathon: http://www.audimileagemarathon.com/ !
Fingers X!

I have compared the VW/Audi TDI offerings to the new BMW/MB Diesels, the Audi is much quieter and more responsive...

As a general rule engines with a displacement of 2.0 and below (Including the VW's 2.0 TDI Jetta, I'm sure there are a few exceptions) do not require the Bluetec's AdBlue (urea) technology.

There are other easier methods available to the engineers which allow the vehicle to comply with the new US and EU emission requirements. The Volkswagen will use a NOx trap and two oxidation catalysts to scrub the Jetta TDI's exhaust, and periodically the engine burns off the material in the traps.

They are still referred to as Bluetec for marketing purposes.

Has everyone seen the "Di*sel | It's No Longer A Dirty Word" commercial, according to the EPA if 1/3 of Americans would drive Diesel by 2025, the US could send back/save 1.5 million barrels of oil per day.

It will probably not happen for at least 1 more year.

VAG wants their cars to be 50 state legal and the emissions testing/certification costs money, money that the automakers don't want to spend right now.

The A3 TDI gets the same engine/transmission as the Jetta TDI and is FWD only. An A3 TDI specific review and FAQ: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_h..._checklist.htm

The A4 would probably require urea injection to be 50 state legal and with quattro, definitely require urea injection. This means a new engine/tuning.
Luckily, the 3.0L TDI engine is already approved for quattro....

Whilst trolling the Audi de.site ya can't help but notice the availability of an A4 Kombi 3.0TDI Quattro with the new 7sp DSG. In North America one day maybe.

Bring on the DSG gearbox's I say. Leave the triditional torque converter gearbox down market as in the Hertz/Avis/ rental fleet...
