Can a TT with 280 miles still be sold by a dealership as "new"?
At what point does a car stop being new and have to be sold as a "demo" model? Does it vary from state to state? I bought my TT "new," but it had 280 miles on it, supposedly driven by the sales manager on a weekend trip. I wanted the car badly enough that I didn't care at the time, but should the bill of sale indicated it was a demo? I noticed one of the doccuments I was given had a place to fill in new, used, or demo, and the new box was checked. Any info from those more knowledgeable than myself would be appreciated.

Stuart's right about the titling (in fact a car with 50 miles on it could be sold as used). I used to work in floorplanning about 10 years ago, and I've seen prior model year cars with a few thousand miles on them sold as "new" (albeit at a substantial discount).
In any event, unless your paid cash, its certainly in your favor to have the car considered new - otherwise you'll see noticably higher rates on your loan or lease.

I'm not sure of the legality of it all, but as long as people are willing to buy the cars, there's not much we can do. I do know, however, that there is an Audi dealer in California who has put close to 2,000 miles on a TT and is eventually going to be selling it as new. He says he can do this because the car has never been titled. Oh yeah, he is going to sell it at MSRP + $5,000.00. Seems to me that a car with 2,000 miles on is should be sold for LESS than MSRP, not MORE.
