Default Electrical problem

I have a problem with lights. My driver side tail and front marker lights are all out. My gauge back lights do not come on when the headlights are turned on. The radio display works but none of the button lights work. All turn signals work as well as all brake lights, headlights and reverse lights. I had to replace the brake light switch in September. Soon after replacing it, I had this light problem. This lasted for about a week and suddenly while driving the "headlight tail light defective" warning light went away and my gauge lights came back. They have been working since. Today after a day of driving, I stopped to pick up groceries and when I started the car the light problem had returned. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any ideas?

I should say that all of the light issues corrected themselves at the same time. In addition, the lights for the sun visor mirrors are also out.

Not sure what's going on, but the thing to keep in mind is that on the TT (and most modern Audis, if not all modern cars) almost everything is hooked to a microcontroller of some sort so that it can be manipulated according to whatever rules the designers want (like "turn the dome light off automatically after x seconds if a door is opened and closed"), and so things can be configured to operate in specific ways (like you can use vag com to give the foglights the "canadian configuration" where they stay on all the time as running lights no matter what you do with the controls).

Anyway, the point is that it sounds like random microcontroller weirdness. If you have vag com you can make individual controllers reset themselves, but if not you might have to do something like disconnect the battery, let the car sit for several minutes, then reconnect it. Of course this will make everything reset and some stuff may happen (like you might have to enter the lock code on the radio, or the ECU might spend 10+ minutes fiddling with the engine performing diagnostics, etc etc) So before unhooking the battery I'd check to see what needs to be done after you reconnect it on your particular car.
