Default Engine overheating

I have an Audi TT 51 plate with 90,000 miles which is highly modified. Yesterday I lazily took my car through a car wash. After coming out I noticed there was steam/smoke coming from the engine. I drove down the road and it continued so I pulled over. My engine heat was showing 130 degrees. I waited to let the car cool down for half an hour and then drove home with no further problems. I have now been out in my car today and was enjoying a country road for no more than 10 minutes when my engine began to lag at 3000rpm and seemingly didn't accelerate after that point. I again let the engine cool down as it was showing 130 degrees. When I then drove home it seemed like it was pulling again and seemed normal. Should I be concerned? Any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Thanks

Default I assume the water pump, TB etc has been replaced twice?

Was the thermostat done then too?

No not since I have had the car which is 2 years in August. I thought it might be the water pump as when I am stationary for longer than a minute the engine temperature shoots right up. I was particularly concerned with the limp mode my car seemed to go into yesterday. I have never experienced that before with it and thus made me think it may have been damaged in some way from taking it through the car wash...

Default You need to find out more about the car

TB, water pump, tensioner etc must be replaced every 5 years or 60K miles. If it has the original water pump, it had a plastic impeller which has likely broken into pieces. If the plastic pieces jam, it will break the timing belt, then the pistons will self-destruct while killing your valves, a $5K+ repair.

You need to contact the prior owner and/or call Audi for service records.

Unless you can definitely prove your TB etc has been serviced within the 5/60 interval, I'd get the car towed to an indy service shop. It will cost about $750 including parts. Most folks think DieselGeek makes the best replacement kit. I've seen several posts this past year of overdue cars failing on the way to the shop.
