Default Hit 5000 today..

Guess it's time for a first scheduled maintenance work!

Would you recommend that I request the dealer's service guys to fill it up with synthetic oil?
Do they have different brands available or should I bring my own? Which one would you suggest given that it's a 3.2L VR6 engine?

Thanks!

Default I did my 5,000 service last week...

Typically, I've done Mobil 1 but synthetic seems a bit less important on a normally aspirated engine versus a turbo. So this time, I used conventional oil.

I may go back to Mobil 1 next time around. Obviously, it's not a very expensive upgrade.

How many miles do you recommend before switching to a synthetic?

Default My mechanic said no synthetic at 5,000, but OK at 10,000 . . .

and he said he had seen 1.8 engines that never broke in right because they went to synthetic to quickly. I know, I know. Many here don't agree. But these guys (an independent garage authorized by Audi) are very experienced and very well respected in this area. So, I went to Mobil 1 at 10,000.

Default Bring a case of Mobil 1. Pick the weight that matches your owners manual.

I use 0/40 in my 225.

There are obviously other brands, but Mobil 1 is easy to find.
