Default Instructions & directions for this Sat's SoCal TT Club Salton Sea Run (part 1)...

As you may be aware, we are doing a Salton Sea Run this Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 10 am. The meeting spot will be at the North County Fair shopping center in Escondido, and specific directions and an itinerary will be detailed in a message which will immediately follow this one.

I have modified the original route a bit which
will make it a touch longer, but will also give us some extra Mount Palomar bonus twisties!

So far, it looks like about 12 TTs and 15 attendees will show up. If you would like to attend but aren't on the list (below), or vice- versa, please let me know asap.

You'll want to start with a full tank of gas, and there are several gas stations at the entrance to the North County Fair mall. I'd
also suggest that you bring water, a camera, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a Family Service Radio, if you have it. We will be operating on
channel 7 code 7 (which kind of looks like TT). You might also bring a light sweater or jacket, as even though we will be traveling through the desert, we will also be driving through mountainous terrain, and the weather can be variable.

Again, you'll be doing a substantial amount of driving, and this event will occupy much of your day. I do think you'll find this run rewarding and a lot of fun.

Here's the preliminary list of who I am expecting:

1. Yours Truly and guest.
2. Richard James.
3. Riaan Oosthuysen (that's easy for you to say!).
4. Ron and Mary Stein.
5. Tom "TP" Mangan and Mrs. TP.
6. Someone whose last name is Castillo (no first name in message).
7. Ian Tonks.
8. Dave Schumacher.
9. Gina Castle.
10. Gary Mitchell.
11. Richard Klivans.

Directions and itinerary to follow in part 2...

I'll give directions as if you're coming from the coast. Those coming from the inland can probably figure this out, and only need to make their way to 15.

Coming from the coast, take I-5 to 78E.
78E to 15S.
15S to the Via Rancho Parkway exit.
R. at the end of the ramp, and you'll see the North County Fair entrance and turn left.
Left again at the first opportunity. You'll see Macys then Sears on your right. Then a giant "Westfield Shoppingtown" sign on the left. We'll meet at the sign. Remember that there are gas stations at the entrance, so you might gas up there.

All odometer readings are approximate. I will discontinue these at the point where I have modified the route. Set your odometer to zero at the North County Fair meeting spot.

0.3 Right turn at the traffic light.
0.5 Left turn onto I-15 South.
1.4 Exit at Pomerado Road (stay to the right).
2.0 Left turn onto Highland Valley Road (watch for sand).
12.1 Left turn at stop sign onto Highland Valley Road.
13.2 Right turn at yield sign onto Highland Valley Road.
15.5 Left onto Hwy 67.
19.2 Right into Sizzler for quick bathroom break.

19.2 Right onto Hwy 67.
19.3 Quick right onto Third Street.
19.8 Third Street becomes Old Julian Hwy.
21.4 Bear left at fork and remain on Old Julian Hwy.
27.6 Right onto Hwy 78.
36.7 Left onto Wynola Road (watch for sand).
41.0 Left onto Hwy 78.
57.7 Left onto Yaqui Road (S3).
64.6 Right into Casa del Zorro. Private parking in rear.

64.6 Right onto Yaqui Road (S3).
64.7 Left onto Borrego Springs Road.
70.2 Go around Christmas Circle & exit onto Palm Canyon Rd./S22
98.2 Left onto 86.
109.1 Right onto Monterey.
109.4 Left onto Thomas.
109.6 Right onto Capri.
110.2 Left for a picture by the Salton Sea!
The mileage doesn't add up at this point, but we'll figure it out.
Left onto Thomas.
Right onto Monterey.
Right onto 86.
116 or so and left into Oasis Station.
Some Miata Commercial was filmed here. Do we care?
Please zero your odometers.

0.0 Right onto 86.
15.4 Right onto S22
43.3 Right onto Christmas Circle.
43.4 Right onto Palm Canyon Road.
44.9 Left onto S22 Montezuma Valley Road.
62.7 Right onto S2.
67.5 Left at T intersection onto 79.
71.9 Right onto 76.
Right S7.
Left S6 (major league twisties!).
Left 76.
Right Mesa Grande.
Runs into 79 (Right)
Stop @ Dudley's Bakery for freshbread/desserts/restroom.

78 West, which will cross 15 and take you back to I-5. Once we cross 15, you are on your own. Hope you had fun!

Default Can I come?!?

seriously always looking for a spontanteous trip. One of these runs would be a great reason to fly out west for a few days.

Do you have a calendar of the scheduled events Brad?

Maybe you could find a set of twins from that dating service you like so much :-)

Thanks!

Default Sure you can...

I'd love to have some east coast types join us one of these days.

I am seriously considering organizing another major TT get together later in the year. It wouldn't be called TT East or TT West, but would be on a similar scale in terms of quality, albeit without the sponsors, raffles and such.

I think that anyone who attended our HearsTT Castle Rally would attest that it was on par with a TT East/TT West type of event, though with fewer attendees.

I've got some interesting ideas, but I'll have to see how my GAFF (Give a Fu$k Factor) looks later in the year!
