Default Keyfob+Incompetent Dealer=Issues

I've been a lurker here for a bit, so I guess I'll jump right in with a question I hope some may be familiar with.

My keyfob on my 2001 TT stopped working. The dealer diagnosed it as "dead". They keyfob was replaced. However, once the car was returned, the lights no longer flashed to let you know the doors were locked. Also, the map light ceased to work on the inside of the car while driving. Sadly, the dealer seems to have no clue, except to disavow any blame in the situation. They said some "microswitch" may need to be replaced. I feel they are guessing at the issue at hand, and are trying to do the tried and true "throw money at it until it's fixed" style of repair. I'm an auto engineer, and this doesn't fly with me.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what the issue might be....apart from and incompetent dealer?

Thanks alot...and I look forward to spending more time here and hopefully contributing to future discussions now that I've got me feet wet.

There's a microswitch in the door lock that often fails. You can buy a new door mechanism or install a standard microswitch.

Causes the alarm and interior lights to be confused.

Check this link.

The other thing that fails is that lock switch between the seats, don't know why because most people rarely use it.

But it was working before my key fob died. As soon as I get the car back, the micro switches are dead?? Seems odd, no?

I don't know how long you have had your TT but these cars are rife with electrical issues.

The equivalent of the lucas or marelli on old british and italian cars.

Start with the basics and eliminate the remote. The comfort control module is activated by the remote.Try manually locking the doors with the key and see what happens.

If you have a VAG.com clear the remote info that's already programmed and start again.

If the interior lights dont work properly , the chime doesn't sound when you open the door with the lights on, or the central display does not indicate door ajar when you open the door with the ignition on----- You need to replace the microswitch. Not exactly fun but certainly doable if you study the how toos.
