Obligatory snow tire poll- Which ones and when?

I bet the weather is nice!
Hope you are doing well buddy
Seriously, I miss you, and my car, and all the good times with all the Audi peeps.
Who knows, I might end up with another TT someday?

I have the Pilot Alpines. And they have been very quiet and great handling.
Maybe it is just your car....lol j/k. I just got them back on the car about an hour ago and drove it around a little to check them out again. I will put over 600 miles on them tomorrow and I am sure they will perform perfectly.

Nokian RSi's from a couple winters' ago. This year's picks: General Altimax Arctic, Hankook iPike
Love the Nokian Hakka 5s and some of the Gislaved tires, but more expensive and harder to get. The two I mentioned are ripoffs of the Nokian tread at a much better price and availability, and can be studded or not. Great snow tires (not as good in the dry as Nokian WRs or Dunlop WinterSport 3D's, but I consider those extended all season tires, not true snow tires.)
FWIW, General tire is now owned by Continental, and these tires are made in Germany. A steal at U.S. prices.

Have a colleague that really likes those...bit more obscure unless you've got a dealer.
Have sometimes had problems with blowouts on roughened winter roads where tire swallowing potholes open up, and then it's tough to find a replacement in late winter because they were made the summer previous, that's happened twice to me now. So I think it pays to keep a spare snow, especially if you're keeping the car a while and choose a harder to find tire. I keep a spare nokian in the garage, and I'd probably do the same with a vredestein or a gislaved. Only issue would be tread depth differences with quattro on the spare, might need to be shaved.
Those are good though!

true. not sure if its just winter tires, but i've had more issues with them than summer
tires. had bubble pop out of the sidewalls and other odd things happen...and you're right, when you want a winter tire to match, and on top of it, and obscure one, you'd better be prepared with a spare. highly recommended on that.
