Default Are we a crazy lot??

Has anyone thought seriously about the `fanaticism` this car provokes from it`s followers. I have been driving and owning autos for 30 years and never considered myself a car nut. Sometimes my wife says that I am nuts and yells at me, stating it is only a piece of tin and get off the TT forum.

Therein lies the enigma. Do other car clubs have fanatics like us that live and breathe TT info? What is it about this car that stikes such strong emotions from us and causes others to stare at our cars? When Audi attempted to change the handling characteristics and add the spoiler, were they surprised by the uproar?

Will I ever feel so strongly again for another auto? That is the question for today especially because it is a miserable day in the northeast and nothing to do except ponder and watch the rain come down.

Default Oh yes... (much much more)

I must say, I spend a lot of time on the web. No, really. A lot! But, it is my job, for the most part and so I never really count the hours or think about how much time it takes up.

With each purchase I make, whether it is a Stereo system, a Palm V or a DVD I always go online and look around at the site. I find reviews, comparisons, etc. I lurk, I read and eventually, after feeling like I know a bit, I post a question or two.

Never has it been like this DAMN CAR!

Granted, it is a big purchase and my first brand-spanking-new car that I have owned (newest past this was around ten years "new"). So, to say that I am obsessed is putting it lightly. I have looked at every picture, followed every deep dark link into the pits of the WWW searching for more information. No amount, it seems, can suffice. It only drives me to look for more.

This forum has been both a blessing and a curse. It is great cuase there is so many people who are willing to answer questions and give back. They post pictures, talk frankly and openly trying to give the best, honest, advice they can. All this activity makes this forum a curse. Leave for ten minutes and Brad or Larry will have posted something new. Leave for an hour and two whole new discussions will have come and gone. I think what makes it such a tight group is because it so hard to talk to others about the subject. Bring it up with your friends and family and they get that "oh no, here we go about that damn TT car thing again." Here, though, discussing what type of oil can take days. A new chip? Years! But, since we are all interested it makes it easy to express how nuts we have become. Oh, yes. NUTS!

But I love every minute of it. It has been a joy to follow along and to contribute when I can. All of this without actually driving or owning this damn car.

I can only imagine what will happen when I do.

Cheers to all.

Default yes....

three months of waiting now, at least three to go... I've never been so obsessed with something in my life. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about my future TT. I stare endlessly at pictures of other people's TT's. I read this forum constantly. I never imagined I could justify the money I'm going to spend on this car. But it suits me so well, the roundness, the elegance, the attention to pure design (I'm a graphic designer type.)

Yep, I'm crazy for the TT.

Default Funny, hadn't thought of it that way. It is a place to (more)

get talking about the TT out of your system. My friends are totally baffled when I start to talk about my car....so now, I relegate my ramblings to this place. Have also learned a great deal from everyone with a large learning curve still ahead. Without participating here, I would have received the recall in the mail and been worried, thinking I had a dangerous car...probably would have run ASAP to get them done. Now, I'm comfortable with my decision to have none of them done. And to answer Marty, yes, we are all a bit TTouched in the head over this car.

Default 69 beetle convertible (more)

invokes this same 'nuttiness' in my husband as the TT
is doing to me. He understands my 'craziness' about
the roadster because he has had the bug since 1981!!
And way back when we used to go to VW shows and gatherings
of a different but similar nature to stuff I read about here.

Maybe it's a VW/Audi thing

Default Not just a VW/Audi thing - Take a look at miata.net for example

Guess it's just that when a car strikes something on an emotional level with a large number of people, you see this kind of comraderie. It's terrific to have this kind of vehicle (sorry, the pun really wasn't intended :-) ) to share stories and information.

Meanwhile, I'm still sitting here waiting for my TT roadster that's on a truck somewhere between Delaware and here ... At least I can live vicariously in the meantime!
225 Roadster - Lake Silver/Black

We're crazy, but we have a right to be. Now, when it comes to those Saab fanatics... ???

Default Not the first time.

I was involved in a forum on Compuserve (pre-web) about an obscure database named Revelation. (For some reason databases often sport grandiose names -- Oracle, Paradox, etc.) BECAUSE it was obscure and BECAUSE it was obviously superior to anything else then on the market and BECAUSE peers are usually the best source of information, there was a very tightly-knit virtual community that shared knowledge, advise, stories, jokes, and program code. They even had a running story about a character named Zohar to which members contributed episodes.

We have much the same situation here. We own a car that's pretty obscure, even though it's found on most of the top 10 lists. WE all think it's one of the most unique and best designed cars out there. And the best info on our TTs isn't AoA -- it's here.

So I look forward to reading the posts, occasionally making a post myself, and getting to know a bit about the other people here, as well as alot about my TT. With luck, I may even get to meet a few of you in the real world, and see your fabulous cars.
