Red OIL light --SOLVED
I wanted to share my experience chasing down an intermittent red oil light that is indicative of low oil pressure and prompts you to immediately "shut off engine and check oil level". The light appears along with 3 distinct beeps and in my case, a 2009 Audi TT 2.0T FSI with 97,000 miles, it would happen seldom at first and gradually increasing in frequency. This particular light is concerning due to the fact that loss of oil pressure can lead to various problems up to and including engine failure. I continued to drive the vehicle after no loss of performance, no unusual behavior and stable oil levels because I had the sense that the problem might be sensor and/or switch related. I brought the vehicle to my mechanic who inspected the engine and found a slight oil leak at the oil pressure switch located near the filter housing. After replacing the switch the warning light has not returned. The switch is a $15 dollar part that requires 1.5 -2hrs labor to remove and install.
