2.8 to 2.7T swap help
I'm new in the last year to Audi ownership. My 1998 manual A4 has 160k and needs some engine work and the interior is very tired and the seats are shot. I have located a wrecked 2001 automatic S4 for sale that must have been garage kept. The interior is in great shape and the drive train has 62k on it. The damage is passenger side doors and front rt fender.
My question is this. Will the 2.7T bolt up to the 98 manual trans. In doing the engine swap do you have any advise on where to look for proceedure. Whats involved.

Yes. It will bolt right up to any 30v trans. The ecu will have to be recoded for a manual trans, as will he s4 gauges (assuming you're going to use the complete s4 harness as it's ME7 DBW (drive by wire) as opposed to m5 DBC (drive by cable).

For full integration I'd get a parts car and swap all the modules/harnesses. Bare minimum, the me7 DBW system requires 2 grounds and 2 power sources for the ecu to power up/run an engine (in addition to the typical sensors). Newer than 01 uses a lot more can-bus communications as k-line was being phased out. Bottom line, I'd swap everything to do it right.
