Default Need help with installing Gates timing belt

Has anyone installed a Gates timing belt before? The belt seems small cuz I can't get it over the crank gear. Maybe the procedure is different than what I did. I installed the belt starting across the can gears then routed the belt over the rollers and now can't get it over the crank gear. Should the procedure be different? I should mention that I'm trying to put the belt on without loosening the can gears. Any help is much appreciated!!

it can be difficult to make sure all the teeth mesh on the crank gear. use a mirror and a light and be certain all the teeth are meshed together then route the belt. it can make the belt seem too small if this is the case

How do I know if there is the correct amount of teeth between the crank gear and can gear on the driver side. I'm guessing the passenger side is taken care of by the tensioner.

Do not count belt teeth. Loose both cam sprockets. My new timing belt also seem tough to fit. What I did was to fit the t-belt without the t-belt tension-roller. Then fit the tension roller onto its bolted position while making sure it engages the t-belt. Just need a bit more patient with both hands.

if your not doing it correctly thats a big issue. Need to breakthe cam pulleys so they spin free and have the cam locking bar. That way perfect tension is set to the entire belt and time is perfect

Finally got the t-belt on and no other issues with reinstalling everything else. I also needed to change the aux water pump as I noticed that was leaking and it looked pretty bad, so managed to get it out by lifting the intake manifold. My only question now is after getting everything back together completely and filling the coolant bottle till the fluid is at the correct level, how do i go about bleeding the system? Is it a matter of leaving the coolant cap off while running the motor with the heater on max? Should it be bled from a bleeder hole (where is this for my 2004 A6 2.7T)?
