Default 99 1.8 Oil Leak HELP...

So I have a HORRIBLE oil leak. I lost over 7 quarts while driving in an hour! I can't tell exactly where its coming from but its wet below the filter and then closer to the block. Any Ideas?

Check around the head and see if there is any visible leaking where the head and block meet. Also check the turbo oil supply line where it meets the block. Does the car seem to have the same amount of power as before this leak started? Is the oil filter on tight?

If all that checks out my guess would be a bad seal on the bottom end crank or oil pump. Thats too much oil loss for something simple like a valve cover or oil pan gasket.

thanks for your reply... unfortunately after work i didn't have any time to get her up and take a look today but the puddle is dead center of my car about 5 inches in front of the axle line. I threw in a little bit of oil and revved the engine so I could listen and every time the gas was pressed you could hear a "whoosh" from the oil leaving wherever it was leaking so it seems more like a line somewhere.

Wow, 7 quarts is about how much gas it should use in an hour, not oil. Look at the turbo oil lines on the top and bottom of the turbo. If you don't see a leak there, use a light to look under the intake manifold, where the oil filter attaches. The oil cooler, filter, turbo oil line, and pressure switch are all there and could be responsible for the leak. Leaking that much, it has got to be pretty obvious.

Wet below the filter? Check the oil cooler gasket. It's just an O-ring and when they fail, it will leak a LOT of oil very quickly and it will appear to come from the oil filter area. It's been a while since my B5 days, but I think you just need a 27mm deep socket to remove one nut on the oil cooler (it's on the shaft the oil filter spins onto) and the cooler drops down and you can replace the o-ring.
