Another newbie question
Just posted about removing a factory stereo. My next question is:
I heard something about allowing the turbo to cool before shutting down. This is my first turbocharged car and am not familiar. Is this neccessary? For how long? I live in Arizona where summertime ambient temps can reach 120 F. Thanks again.

If your car is stock...
...then probably about 60 seconds. Maybe even 2 mins to be safe if you have been driving it hard.
If you have it "chipped" then it really depends on how hard you drive it just before you plan to get out.
If you drive it real hard and the turbo is glowing, give it between 2-5 mins. I would never shut the car off if the turbo is glowing. If you drive the thing really soft just before you plan to get out, still wait at least 2 mins.
Even if it's glowing just a tiny bit, don't shut it down.

wait a sec....
if u havent driven it hard and you were taking it easy before you stopped, you would still wait 2 min? That sounds like overkill.
If you go out to the store 5 min away, you would do that?

I said...
"Maybe even 2 mins to be safe if you have been driving it hard."
But it's your turbo...
The original question did not ask anything about a quick jaunt to the store. However, it would still depend how hard you drive it. I can get my turbo glowing bright orange in seconds (when it's warmed up of course).
Plus, I'm not under warranty, I'm not taking any chances!
I'd check your turbo even after a quick and easy jaunt to the store, you may be surprised as to how fast it gets a little orange.
Ever time how long it takes from watching your turbo (even glowing just a little bit from easy driving) go from glowing to completely dark at night? It's an easy 2 mins...and that's just for a light glowing, not a real bright-hot glow.
***Get a boost gauge, that way you can try to adjust your driving to use your turbo less...or get a turbo timer***

Re: Do you have a 1.8T? Drive it hard for a few mins then pop the hood.
No I have the 2006 with the 2.0t, I am new to Audi and to turbo so this post caught my attention. Are you telling me after I drive hard I can pop the hood and see the turbo glowing orange?????
