Based on some *real* inside info, if I was chipping, I'd get the GIAC in a second.

I know that's a pretty bold statement based on the current climate on the Forum. All I can say is my very close associate, with impecible crudentials, is someone who was consulted in the development of the GIAC chip. He has not only given the stamp of approval to the Garett chip, he said he has never seen a failure in one of their chipped engines. I got this info personally via telephone conversation today. I place 100% confidence in it. I'm posting this as a tip to my friends here.

Yeah, I don't get involved with chip debates, my first 1.8t, but this factual info.
a two minute conversation today told me everything I need to know about the '02 chips. I'm not planning on getting involved in a big discussion because I have little expertise to offer. This is what I found out and it is good enough for me, I'll leave it at that.

The guy was busy running his business, the issue is that there is no issue!
My buddy installs chips from a few companies and does not reflect on all of them as being desireable. I wish I could explain who I am talking about, that would clairify why I take his word as the final word on Audi turbos. All I can say is his status is what I consider to be above most tuners and even the Dealer. I know he does not use the internet, but still he knew every detail of our beloved Chip Debate inside-out and backwards. He claimed that he was consulted by Garrett on the fuel system. Based on his past association with Garrett, I have no doubts. I lean on him for support with my cars, I cannot quote him directly, but I do trust him implicitly. Just to add, the chip info was NOT the reason I called the guy, a personal friend of mine. I am selling my car and cannot use the info, just wanna pass it on.

Bing. I think I know what the question is. I have no problem disclosing my source to people I know
or correspond with. I just can't post it like some school-girl gossip. Ralphie has a good rep here and is impartial.(3.0) Maybe he will develop and share an opinion based on what I told him, as long as he dosen't quote my guy directly, fine.

NuA4, I am getting chipped by Shine in Walpole, MA on Friday. GIAC chip. What version should I be getting? I emailed GIAC and they haven't responded. I don't know why they take so long to respond to emails. Anyways I wanna make sure I get the most current version. Shine said that they haven't chipped any 02's yet. Any help would be great.

I guess your shop wants to get their info strait. I think GIAC is finalizing their v1.0 There are a
lot of happy customers (I guess) from the alpha and beta versions. Anyway, there is a fuel return line and no problems with the checksums(as long as you can crack the algorythum) or the fuel injector duty-cycles locking-up or leaning-out the burn. All I know is what I read here and that my friend verified the chip is safe and effective. Good Luck, I'd wait to get the finalized, General Release Version, whatever that is called.
