never drove a bmw before. wondering if the handling really is that much sharper than the 3.0

compared to my A4 1.8T sport:

the 325i w/sport:
handles better (but haven't tried rain)
rides smoother, but just as taught
brakes FAR better.

now...my car is stage 2+, so i could outrun the 325 easily, but it's still no slouch. power is smooth and linear, pulls all the way to redline...and it doesn't care so much how hot it is outside. at highway speeds, passing power falls off...but it'll still get 25-30 mpg cruising at 95-100mph.

i really like both cars. each has its own niche. my interior is far better, but the ride and handling dynamics of the beemer are better.

now...if it was 330 versus my car, i'd take the 330. but i'd also have a much higher car note

You sure about that? Beats our Audi's hands down.
Brakes better too as you said. Audi sure is nicer though especially inside.
