Default Hello from a newbie (and a question too)

Hey all. Just picked up an 02 A4 1.8TQ on Monday, and I'm loving it! I just wanted to come in and introduce myself since I think I'll be spending a lot of time here.
I have an easy (I hope) question. Neither of my remotes seems to be working, so I have to lock/unlock the car with the key. I replaced the battery in one of the remotes, no dice. I tried the tech suggestion of putting key in ignition, close door, etc., no dice. I didn't buy the car from an Audi dealer so they had no clue what to do. Do I need to go to the dealer and have them program the remotes? Is it covered under warranty or is it going to cost me? Thanks for the help!

Default As long as your car is under warranty, that should be covered under warranty.

Just go in and tell them that the remotes don't work.

Cool, thanks for the quick response. Is this something that would require an appointment or should I just swing by when I'm in the neighborhood. The closest dealer is about 40 miles away.

I believe the remotes have to be reprogrammed after you change the battery

Default Welcome!

Just picked up an 02 Quattro myself about 2 weeks ago. It's a great car - loving it too. Just bring the keys to the dealer and they will take care of it for you. Is it still under warranty?

Default its always smart to call first and ateast establish yourself with the dealer...

keep in mind if you have over 50,000 miles you are currently out of warranty...

so if thats the case definitely call them first and they should be able to tell you the cost anyway

Default reprogramming procedure....

<b>Existing remote transmitter recoding procedure</b>
This procedure must be performed after changing the batteries in keys with remote control function, or if the scan tool displays DTCs of 00955 to 00958

Lock vehicle from outside using key to be coded via driver-side door lock.
Press "unlock" button within 5 seconds often enough to reach next memory position (in example given, twice). Every press of the button is confirmed by the emergency flashers and the anti-theft system horn.
Wait 5 seconds.
Now press "unlock" button one more time (vehicle unlocks).
Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.
Check function of new transmitter.

<b>Clearing memory positions</b>

<b>NOTE:</b> It is possible to clear all memory positions, e.g. if a customer loses a remote transmitter. Proceed as follows:

Switch ignition on using key.
Then mechanically lock central locking from outside vehicle using key.
Activate remote transmitter "unlock" button on key five times at one second intervals.A short horn signal will sound each time.
Then, after 6 seconds , press remote transmitter "unlock" button to confirm this clearing procedure one more time. Central locking should no longer unlock itself via remote transmitter.
Switch ignition off.
Up to four transmitters can now be coded again

Default Thanks!!

Thanks a lot for the great advice. I'll try the reprogramming procedure and call the dealer if it doesn't work. The car has 37K on it so it's still under warranty.
Stay tuned for more questions...
