OT: Insurance advice needed!!!
So I have a little situation and I was hoping that some of you can give me some advice. I plan on speaking to my insurance agent tomorrow but just want to get all the input possible.
Couple weeks ago (Friday the 13th, actually) the car lift (*see sig) in my underground parking spot malfunctioned and my car was on top of this lift. When I was getting ready for work I realized that my car was essentially sitting on top of my neighbor's new Acura MDX. The damages could have been worse -> estimated $760. The lift company says it's "user error" meaning my fault, and the management is not being very helpful. Essentially as end users my neighbor and I are left to our own devices.
I spoke to a representative from my insurance company and she thinks that my neighbor should take it up with either his insurance company or the condo management. Since nobody was occupying the vehicles and there was no collision this would be an unusual insurance claim.
While I feel terrible about my neighbor's new car I don't feel like I have done anything incorrectly and feel uneasy about putting up the money this way.
How do you think I should handle this situation? Should I pay up? Should I file a claim with my insurance company and give them a head's up? Or should I just respond to my insurance company if they contact me?
I'm hoping that my insurance company can explain to him that I should not be held entirely responsible given the circumstances. However, I'm, as you might imagine, also a bit concerned about how this may affect my insurance premiums. Hm, what to do? (My annual rate is currently just a hair over $1300, for reference). Thanks in advance. =P

they said that most of the time it's because the user did not
lower the lift all the way before elevating the lift but it's aggravating since I did all that.
all things considered I suppose I feel fortunate that the damage was not worse, but nevertheless it's not a happy situation.

I'd wait for your insurance to contact you. You were using the lift that malfunctioned
so you could be found at fault but you could probbly go after the lift owner/mfg'r for a counterclaim
