Default P2181 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Hi everybody

I got code P2181 and after doigna lot fo reading i replaced the Engine Coolant Temeprature Sensor (Gray one) at the end of the block in front of the firewall. The reason why I didi that was because my temperature gauge is fluctuating before the mid temp range where it used to be before very religiously and steady. Apparently there is another sensor (Green one) which I can't figure out its location since all the manuals in the Audi Dealership either point to the 1.8T version or doesn;t show this one.

I'm running in circles any help?

I have the identical problem here with a 2005.5. B7 2.0T. I do not think there is a green temp sensor. The one on the firewall is gray and the other temp sensor at the radiator is looks black. The dealer gave me a green one for the one that is gray, and I could not replace it.

Either way, I replaced the thermostat and the 2181 has not reapeared. I think 2181 indicates that the engine does not warm up fast enough, which points to thermostat being open and letting engine coolant to the radiator.
