Is the rear diffuser functional or just for show?

It's functional for collecting dust, pollen, and exhaust soot (PITA to clean).

I wish the S Line "mesh" was real hollow metal; would be much easier to clean!

Who will be be the first one to cut that faux mesh out and install real mesh?

It will be done, I bet... a la the allroad grill mesh installs on numerous B5s back in the day...
