Hmm.. Where can I find a cheap engine stand that will work with my V8?

Default This one was ~$120 at Amazon of all places. Holds my 862-pound 1941 Buick straight-8.

It was actually made for heavy diesel truck engines (note the braces that hold it vertical on the back of the stand). I put the Buick on my wimpy Summit small-block stand and it started to bend the instant I took pressure off the hoist. Had to keep the engine on the hoist and a block of wood until the new one showed up.

I don't have any good photos of the engine on the stand, but you can see it here in the background. To get an idea of the length of the engine (i.e. long lever arm to bend engine stands), here's the crankshaft next to a small-block Chevy head.

It'll hold any engine you throw at it and was remarkably cheap.

Default Here's the exact model at Harbor Freight (couldn't find it at Amazon this time)

And it looks like shipping is ~$11 if I'm reading the chart correctly. I recall being surprised by how cheap the whole process was. If shipping was $50, I'd remember that.

Hope this helps.<ul><li><a href="http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=47304">Engine stand</a></li></ul>
