Finally got tired of repeated Resolve cleaning of stains on passenger side c/d pillar trim and headliner on my 01 a6 2.7 6spd. Up early today and dug in for a headliner drop.

i followed Boston Driver's excellent tech section post on headliner removal, with some sequence modifications. First, I dropped the c/d pillar trim and took a peak up under the headliner. I poured some water into the sunroof tray to find that the leak was coming from the junction between the piece of white plastic hose and the green drain hose.

Rather than continuing with the headliner drop,
I was able to reach in and pull the white hose off the tray and out to the side of the headlliner. I put a dab of RTV between the white hose and the green hose and put a small hose clamp over the junction and gently tightened. I then put another small hose clamp over the end of the white hose where it fits over the ball nipple on the sunroof tray. I was able to fit the white hose over the nipple and reach in with a nut driver to snug up the second clamp. Tested with more water and no leak. Hose clamps probably overkill, but what the heck.

BTW the outlet hose was under rear wheel liner up near the top, not under rear bumper as stated in Bentley. This has been noted by others. I also ran a section of #12 wire through the hose to verify that it was clean.

I have no idea why the engineers did not match the size of the sunroof drain nipple to the green hose to eliminate the need for another short piece of junction hose. Perhaps the junction hose is an audi kluge to recover from a design flaw. ahem
