Just wondering how the exterior heated mirrors work. When you turn the mirror switch to enable it, is this an active system or a passive one?

By that, I mean, does the switch merely enable vents to open so that heated air from inside the A6 gets out to the mirror? Or is is heated electronically?

Just mainly asking since with this winter dragging on, I have had to use it a bit but then often forget to turn it off. If it is "electronically heated", does it shut off automatically like the rear defogger?

As I said, just wondering.

It's electronic/resistive. Not sure about it timing out, though.

A4 to A8

Electronic and rear defroster has to be on and the switch for controlling the mirrors have to be in the center position .If the switch is to the right position for the passenger side mirror to tilt when backing-up, the mirror heaters will not work.
