Time for the latest update.

So I went back to the dealer and we chatted. It turns out they used this universal fluid made by a company called "BG." The dealer said that it's better than any of the OEM fluids and BG even has a life time warranty on the transmission if you use their fluid. Sounds like pretty great stuff I say. So, I cave and don't force the dealer to put in the OEM stuff believing that this BG wonder fluid will work great and end up curing world hunger.

After I got home I started doing some digging. Turns out people really like BG's fluids. Great! Then I found this pdf on their site: http://www.bglsi.com/ATF.PDF. It specifically states that their fluid is NOT recommended for use as a replacement for G055162A2. Which, according the Audi TSB, is supposed to be the correct fluid for my car. So I email them back a long and detailed email including the PDF from BG and they send me an email back this morning "May I have the car tomorrow?"

Great! So looks like they are going to do "something" about it, although I don't know what that is because the dealership is less than helpful when it comes to these types of things I'm learning.

That means it's time for me to do even more digging. On ZF's website (http://www01apps.zf.com/kst464/ZF_In...011_en0700.pdf), they say that the G055162A2 fluid is only for use in cars with the W12. But wait! The Audi TSB says that ALL A6's should have a software update and then use G055162A2. That contradicts what ZF is saying to do. I kept digging. I *think* the transmission in my car is the 6HP19. I came to this conclusion by looking at the option sticker and finding the letter code "HWE." This apparently links up to the 6HP19, but I'm not 100% sure (just some random mechanics website told me that). But lets just pretend that's right. So according to ZF, I would need G060162A2. But I thought that fluid was only for cars 2008 and newer! Oh joy. More confusion.

Needless to say, now I'm totally at a loss. Without some super-secret access to the Audi vault where they keep the information on what fluid to use in 2006 A6's, I don't know what to fight for. Sure, I should just let the dealer "take care of it." But the last time I let that happen they put in a fluid that isn't compatible with my car at all! Ugh!

What do you guys think? I’m just about ready to give up, let the dealer do whatever, drive the car till it falls apart and then buy a Hyundai or something (oh god, please don’t let it come to that).

Go with the ATF specified in the TSB. My dealer has identified ATF G055162A2 both times they have changed it in my car.

Sounds good to me. That's what I was thinking, but got a little worried after looking it up on ZF's site.

I'm just headed to the dealer now. Let's see what they have to say about all of this.
