Default Cam Shaft Postion Sensor and Timing Belt

Hello All,
I have a couple questions for you all. I just purchased a 2000 A8L about 4 months ago with 84000 miles on it. It has ran like a champ so far but the other day the check engine light appeared. I took it over to O'reily's auto parts and borrowed their code reader to get the fault code and it said "Cam shaft postion sensor open or short to B+ (Bank2)" I have searched on AudiWorld but haven't had too much luck finding anything and I was wondering if any of you had information on what the possible causes are. Also I haven't had the timing belt changed on it yet so I don't know if that is what could be causing it. I am a mechanical engineer and replaced pretty much everything on my Audi 90s and restored a 68 galaxie 500. Is replacing the timing belt something I can do? Finally is there anything that you recommend I should do to the car, i.e. replaces trans fluid, plug wires, etc. because I don't know the whole history of the car and I don't want it to self destruct on me. I know that is a lot but any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chad

You might check the wiring to the cam sensor on the LH bank, the one by the coolant tank. It might be frayed or strained at the can sensor end.

Oh, as for the t-belt if you are not doing the cam/crank seals it's pretty easy to change the belt, T-stat and water pump and no special tools are required. You can do the whole operation in a day without removing the front end or radiator, there is room to work with just the fans out and the serpentine belt system out too of course.

If you are doing those seals you need the crank lock and you might as well get the cam lock bar and take off the grill, etc.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I checked both wire and connectors going to the camshaft position sensors. It seems that I get a voltage reading from the driver's side but not from the passenger side. Does that mean I have a short in the wire?
