2008 fsi model reliability?
While googling, I saw alot of variance in terms of ppl's experience with D3 A8. While some say they're very durable/reliable, some say the electronic glitches are a nightmare. I'm considering a 2008 FSI model(prefer the f/l led looks). My main questions are..
1. Is it an absolute no-go without a warranty(say a 50~60k mi model)?
2. How does it compare to w221 s550 in terms of reliability? One of my relatives used to own one but was a reliability nightmare..
3. Are the later F/L models(08/09) more reliable than the earlier ones(06/07)?

Later ones are more reliable out the box, but a well looked after early one should have had most of the glitches worked out by now so are also reliable.
On the whole they're solid in terms of the big stuff with the electrical issues you mention are usually pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.
Air suspension can cause some problems in the usual areas (compressor, leaks, air bags etc.) but no more so than any other car with similar systems.

Thanks for your input dave.
How long can the air suspension system in a D3 A8 last before it starts causing some problems? My family owns a 4.2tdi touareg r-line with an air suspension in south korea but it has only done 18000km(less than 12000 mi) so I still haven't got a clue how prone these thigs are to breaking. Again, thanks for your input dave

The suspension system is generally reliable, but expect a couple of issues with the compressor due to wear around the 100k mile mark. Replacement us not a big job and the parts around $500. If a strut airbag springs a leak then refurbs ones are $600. New ones are $1800.
Some if the suspension bushings will also likely need replacing at that mileage, but that's the same with most cars.
