Brown Water

Engine is running rough, missing I guess you'd call it. No other warning lights or gauges reading anything bad. Drove it home like this about 3 miles. Would you think it's OK to drive to the dealer (25 miles), or should I have it towed.

CEL will come on soon. Likely after two driving cycles if it doesn't immediately.

Impossible to say or advise on driving w/out a VAG COM scan or something similar. Offhand on an early vintage, I would look for a failed spark plug coil or maybe a vacuum leak due to worn out hose or otherwise. Those are minor. Very small probability bad things go all the way up to slipped timing belt.

Easy to diagnose and shouldnt cost more than $250 or so.

Solid yellow CEL means OK to drive until you get it fixed. Flashing means get it serviced ASAP. Red lights mean shut it down.
