Is the engine in your car a P-D? What country is the car located in?

I believe the current spec is VW 507.00 but that is here in the US. What oil spec does your owners manual suggest? Any oil meeting that spec is good.

Pitta, it's going to make it very difficult for us (in the USA where car was never sold) to answer your question.


Do you know how many cylinders the engine has?

Problem is, VW was selling diesel engines (4 cylinder) in the USA/Can in 2005. That engine was called a P-D or Pump Duse. It was a unit injector design. It had a unique oil requirement from VAG called 505.01. Those oils were 5W40 only but later became 5W30. A lot of people used the API 5W40 diesel engine oil as an alternate since the 505.01 oils were difficult to purchase. These cars had widespread cam wear issues.


VAG was also selling the Touareg diesel in the USA around that time period. That was a V10, IIRC, and had another oddball oil requirement: VAG 506.01

Open hood, err bonnet, and look inside. Probably a 3.0TDI or a 4.2TDI, at least it was by 2007. Even better, after opening see if there is an oil sticker/spec there by chance.
