Default Turbo oil screen replacement and pcv valve on 2013 A8l 4.0t with 76k miles

Hey everyone! I thought I would share some pictures I took while my co-worker and I replaced the turbo oil screen and pcv valve on my 2013 A8l with 76k miles on it. Took about 5 hours and we took our time and didn't rush. Everything is very straight forward but you have to be mechanically inclined to do this repair. The conditions of the turbos were good. There was no back and forth play but very slight side to side play on both turbos which was minimal and will be taken out with oil pressure. The drivers side turbo did have lots of oil but we think this was caused by pcv valve since there was oil in the intake. Here are some pics
Drivers side turbo, lots of oil but very slight play which is fine and no scoring. May be caused by failing PCV

Passenger side turbo That little spot near the compressor wheels is silicon not scoring, not sure how it got there but we cleaned it out.

The puddle to the right is coolant mixed with oil which is why it looks brown

Oil screen after 76k miles, clogged up severy compared to new one

It was very nice of you to take the pics and share. I assume everything is working fine now and the owner has a renewed peace-of-mind!

I just can't get over the design flaw of having that rediculous screen there.. I bet the turboes would be good for 150k miles if it weren't for a 5$ part that should never have been used.

Nice pics! I’m not sure of a good shop near me that I trust to do this kind of work. Because of that I have been changing my oil every 5K miles, hoping clean oil will help. Anyone think that will help or am I just wasting money? 88K miles on my ‘13 4.0T, fingers crossed...

If anything changing oil more often will clog it faster... Oil is thinner after being broken down which in turn can more easily pass through that screen. Thicker fresh oil will definitely have more trouble getting through the design flaw.

Save your money and get it changed, do the PCV valve as well, its under 400 for parts. My co-worker and I did both the screen and PCV. I would say find a shop that already did this or a reliable mechanic. Getting oil changes done more frequently is not a safe bet. The old screen is very restrictive. Im surprised my turbos were in good shape being how clogged up it was. Get it changed and enjoy your car. It's better compared to changing turbos if they become damaged.

Where in the valley do these filters reside?

Could you point them out in a picture zoomed out to see where they are in perspective to everything else.

What is clogging therm up? Is there any way to put pressure with a cleaning agent on the back side and wash the filter of the stuff that clogs it up?

Sorry, one more question.... if you were at the point of replacing the PCV unit, how much further would you have to go to replace those filters?

Turbo related: ...do cooling hoses/lines last a while? Past 100k miles?

Should the screen, PCV and (mini)hoses/cooling lines be done at an interval such as 90k miles?

I guess major maintenance specific to the 4.0L turbos

Thanks for the feed back

Smile D4 4.0L turbo support assembly items

A review of my records for 2013 D4 4.0L- now at 90k miles -
Note - mileage range 71 to 83k miles

Mobil 1 every ~500 miles. Turbo screens not replaced yet, should it be done?
PCV valve replaced under Warranty/TSB. *replace again?

Y water pump connector replaced CPO/Warranty. Cooling lines/hoses replaced 73k miles CPO/Warranty

Oil separator replaced CPO warranty

Let me know your thinking on these...

Thanks
