keyless entry method for an 89 80E
in the previous message i posted i mentioned that i was going to fit remote keyless entry, then i noticed a post at the bottom of the page concerning this.
my car is an australian (as in RHD) 1989 80 2.0E sedan. i'm after info on the location of the vacuum servo, and the loom i have to cut into. my first thoughts were that i could take off the passenger door trim, and just wire up the contacts from the remote unit to the actuator switch contacts. is this possible or is there a better way? also, if anyone is interested in a boot realease solenoid (with hardware and switch), one is available from Jaycar at www.jaycar.com.au, cat #LR-8834 ~AUD$35. with an extra disabling relay triggered from the park switch (so it won't release with the car in gear) this saves having to get out to open the boot, and gives remote release too.

just finished this mod on my '88 90q...
That was my post on the bottom. I decided to use a third method after being unable to figure out which wires to tap into on the vacuum control unit. I also blew alot of fuses trying to splice relays into the 3 wires directly at the factory lock actuator. So I decided to piggy back an aftermarket actuator to the factory one and wired it up using two 5-pin relays.
I know that it's more work this way but I was sick of popping fuses and decided to stop before I did any further damage. Works great now

some good news on my car...
I've just found out a few things about the central locking system in my car...
it ISN'T factory. i pulled off the drivers door trim, and lo and behold - one VERY
waterlogged Vision master central locking actuator. i pulled it out and bench tested it, and sure enough - faulty microswitch. New complete actuator $15.95 at Jaycar. i'm going to design and cut a deflector to protect it and the switchgear in the door at the same time. also, now i know don't have a vacuum pump et al for the central locking. with a 2 channel remote and the boot release solenoid, i can have remote central locking, and remote boot release. i am now officially stoked!!! ;-)
