From what I can gather, I believe voltage/load balancing, will extend the longevity of the batteries.

Here is a bit more information:

A software update is necessary on Audi e-tron vehicles manufactured within a specific period. The battery system of an electric vehicle consists of a large number of individual battery cells. These cells have the same capacity and slightly different cell voltages. Without a balancing function, the capacity of the entire system would align itself with the capacity of the weakest cell. In addition, individual cells could be overloaded and age more rapidly. The efficiency of the balancing function may be affected by a possible error in the cell voltage measurement. This software update optimises the function of the control unit with respect to balancing and stabilises the cell voltage measurement

Ever since I got the 93M3 update, the GOM has been slowly going down, even though efficiency has improved. I typically get 2.6 to 2.8 miles/kWh with the warmer weather, yet the GOM is now showing 162 miles at 80%. When I first got the 93M3 update, the GOM would be close to 200 miles at 80%. With the Model S I had before, daily charging to 80% seemed to confuse the BMS which reduced the rated range displayed. I wonder if the same thing is happening on our e-tron and the 93N6 update here to address this issue. I never had this problem before the 93M3 update, so I wonder if this is a new problem they introduced.

I doubt the Audi is suffering from the same issue as the Tesla. The Audi contains an actual GOM which monitors SOC, Cabin and driving conditions, etc. to come up with an estimate. The Tesla is more of a DOM (Dumb-O-Meter): it takes the SOC at 100% and sets that to the EPA official Range rating. Of course, like all EV's the Tesla battery is sensitive to weather, so periodically you'd need to charge it to 100% to get the car a bit more in synch with weather trends. However, that is not to say the Audi might be suffering with some mileage "synching" issues post 93M3 update.

It's likely that the 93N6 may address more than one issue, so maybe addressing how the GOM deals with this sudden 2% increase in battery capacity is one of them.

I had the 93n6 update completed on my car on Friday. My GOM is showing over 200 miles of range at 80%. It usually shows about 170-180. I suspect it won’t last but my efficiency has been between 2.7 to 2.8 since we picked it up. I usually get around 2.5. The temperature has been warmer too so that might be improving efficiency.

Just had this done today. Actually right now. But these are the MyAudi App screen shots before and after with the exact same SOC.

Before update.

After update.

Are your (US) dealers charging for this update? If so, how much? I’d like to get this update done but won’t need an annual service for quite some time.

Free. It is a TSB service covered by warranty.

I took the car in a month ago for something else and they told me this was due and scheduled it for the next loaner car availability.

That's about what I've been seeing since our 93N6 update three weeks ago (240-250 mi @ 100% SOC). Our range boost hasn't faded away (at least not yet). Unfortunately I don't have a consistent long-range commute that I could use to compare actual before and after range.
