Questions about local shops for the STL guys
Okay. I am driving to St. Louis on Tuesday morning, May 25th. I plan to have a couple things done to my car while there. I fly out of St. Louis on Thursday the 27th to go to San Fransisco, so it would be nice if I could line something up while my car sits there for a week.
First off, I am buying OEM sport suspension (springs/shocks) for my 2002 A4. If I recieve the package in time, I'd like to have it installed when I get to St. Louis on the 25th or 26th. Are there any local shops that do installations and alignments that anyone here has gone to? I want to start calling places soon so I can set up an appointment for one of those days. I might even call Parktown or Plaza to see what they would charge.
Okay, second thing is I want to get my car tinted. In Iowa, the restrictions are: Windshield = no tint; Front passenger windows = 70%; Rear passenger windows and rear windshield = Anything. I was thinking 70% on the front passenger windows, and either 50% or 35% on the rear. I know it won't be too noticeable, but I am not a fan of dark tint, but I am also not a fan of absolutley no tint. So I just want to know of any good local tints shops around town. I will be staying in South County/Arnold area, so I could drive anywhere. I was thinking preferably a west county area since I am most familiar with that part of town. Well that's all. Any suggestions you guys could give me as far as names/phone numbers of good shops would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is any meet ups from the 25th or 26th, I'd be interested in trying to make it (if my car is out of the shop). Thanks

Not sure about suspension shops...
I'm taking mine in to Plaza tomorrow (monday) for service. I'll let you know how it goes. As far as tints go, check out Quality Glass Tinting on Manchester Road in Manchester (636-391-3888). They did my car and they did a great job! Legal limits in StL are 35% in front and any in back, so I got 20% all around The cops around here don't hassle you. I personally wouldn't get different tints on the front and back. It's really noticable and doesn't look very cool. Push the limits and get at least 50% (I'd even go 35% - it's not that dark) all around. It's not worth $250 to get 70% tints IMO.

Yeah I think the same tint all around is best...
A couple friends here have 35% all around (except windshield) and it doesn't look too dark. I think they've been pulled over once or twice for it, and maybe one ticket. 50% might be the way to go for me. I was also thinking of metallic or titanium tint as well. Oh, and thanks for the advice!

Don't forget the alignment...
You need to do an alignment very soon after the install. I'd recommend someone that has experience with our cars and can do both. Parktown did mine, but it wasn't cheap!

I hate Quality Glass
They have done 3 of my cars in the past but totally f*cked up my first 04 Audi A4 by putting 2 deep scratches in it, and three dings. The car was less than a week old and I KNEW how and where I parked it at work. They denied obviously, and did a very mediocre tint job. They are really busy which hurts them b/c their quality goes down. One more thing, I dropped my car off when they opened, and they said it would be done at 5 pm (closing). I ended up leaving at 6:45 and went home to wash only to discover all the above mentioned things.
I went with Tint Crafters in Rock Hill (off of Manchester Rd). I have 35%front/15% rear.

Parktown did my alignment too, cheaper than Reid Vann...
talk to Tom (IIRC).
And as far as tint, just get whatever you want. So long as it's not dark ( < 35% ) you won't get hassled.
