To check on rim width adequacy, just go to TireRack for any given tire size, click through to a tire choice and look at its specs. TR list min to max rim width for a given tire 95% of the time. If not shown for the 5% cases, just try a different tire/brand. Same info is on some (not all) tire manufacturer sites too.

Ok, I guess my question is, how much wider can I go with the stock 8" wheel without the tire rubbing? If I drop down in height one inch or stay the same, the height doesn't matter. It's the width, Id like to go to 10-11 inches wide.

I see you're in upstate Ny.Be carefull with the aspect ratio. You can take this vehicle from a pretty competent bad-roader to a buckboard if you shrink the sidewall too much. It's a major player in the shock isolation characteristics.Depends on where you're driving. UNy.can have some decent roads but some can be pretty tough, very much like Quebec your neighbour.

Since actual dimensions can be really different, you can't really use those calculators that simply use nominal dimensions. For exemple, the Bridgestone tire she linked is 10.4" width while nominal dimension is 10" (255 mm). And because all tires don't deflect the same amount, it is even worst when comparing diameter. You have to check Revolution / miles.

Here are two 255 tires.

This one will show you and have the difference in numbers and will tell you what other sizes you can use.

Well, a 255/50 tire, as was suggested earlier, is already 10 inches wide, at least in theory.
