I think the point is to see where the curb is while parallel parking (which is nearly always on the passenger side) and to give you a better view of what you can't see out your own window, while the driver's side mirror lets you monitor the cars and bikes going by before opening the door. It seems like a reasonable choice to me.

If you parallel parking with two lane traffic if drivers mirror dips you can’t see back and if you reverse you could hit a passing car with your front. Personally never had an Audi or other car that dip both but I guess others had. If this was or is in option on any car that I would own I would turn it off. But that is only my preference
