You won't have it in Q7 made for North American market and might stop looking for it altogether. There was a time- say 15-10 years ago - when VAG was installing auxiliary heaters on their flagship models shipped to NA as a part of special order, but I am fairly certain that these times are over. You may try to do your own installation as you can get these auxiliary units, such as those made by Webasto (supplier of these things for VAG), quite easily from Amazon.com:

As far as that statement from the Manual - the booklet covers cars sold in all countries, including those who still can get Webasto installed.

Basically, it allows you to recirculate the heat from the _already warm_ engine by recirculating the coolant through the heater core without the engine running.

You are correct, they are entirely different as I've stated all along.
