I do not have slight idea about what it was. What I know is that I will have to have the lower part of the bumper repainted.

Does anyone have any idea or suggestion?

I'm amazed that part of the bumper doesn't have any clear coat on it and that paint is very weak so I can see how something would stain it pretty easily. I'm half tempted to reach out to a bud and have him throw some clear coat on it.

Sounds dumb, but it works - I use gasoline and it removes all grease, tar, paints, etc.

After rubbing it with gas, I wash the area like I usually do and have never had a problem.

YES - I did this to the hood of my 3 week old Mercedes and no harm was done.

Hi jrosa, when you took your car into the body shop did they mention what the stain was, as I have a similar stain on the upper part of my bumper.

thanks

Try a polishing compound.

If it's a flat or matte finish, a polish will mess up the paint. Since vinegar didn't work, you can try an alkaline base to see if that works but watch the molarity and ph (maybe stick to 1 mol and pH range of 8-12, so start w/ baking soda and go to ammonia or ammonia based cleaner). And as mentioned above, gasoline is a great solvent, but some mineral spirits (aka Naphtha) would probably be a better choice. The wife's former Q5 had plastic transfer from a run-in with a Yakima skybox in the garage that looked like scratches, and naphtha pulled it right off and didn't harm the finish. If that doesn't work, some electric parts cleaner that is plastic safe may be a good bet, for example something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/CRC-05103-E.../dp/B000BXOGNI.
