Default Max 7000 rpm - what do YOU do ?

What do you guys do when the engine is 'cold' and the display says only a max of 7k rpm.

Do people really take it up to 6k+ ?

I did it once the other day (to show it off to my friend, stupid me) and felt so bad for the poor engine. But I suppose I was within specs. ??

Default I follow RI RS4's model, until 150 I stay under 3.5k RPM, then stay under 5k rpm until 200deg, then

after 200deg, anything goes (short of redline

Default Now that I've passed 600 miles and I'm "allowed" to go to 7,000 I take it easy until the temp

is at least 180deg. My car only has ~850 miles on it, so it's still breaking in, but I was really surprised by the power available above 6,000. Previously I was always shifting about 5,500 as the car was just getting into the power band. It's fun to be able to "explore" a bit more now that I'm passed the first hurdle (600 miles).

I keep it below 5000, give or take. Doesn't get very cold here though.

Default I agree with Ben

I like to keep the rpms low until you're sure that the oil is up to temp and flowing. Remember that in cold weather, not only the engine oil has to get up to temperature, but also the transmission and gear oil need to get up to temperature. This takes a bit longer, which is why I like to wait until the engine has reached full operating temperature.

With the wide viscosity synthetic oils that we have now, (assuming that you're using a good one), oil is flowing well and supporting the bearings at low temperatures right after engine start.
