This is why my wife drives a 2006 BMW 530xi Wagon (avant) - we have a two year old, and she is also 10 weeks pregnant. No worries for me though, as the S4 is Daddy's toy, and we do most of our family runs in the beemer.

Right now I'm eyeing a Q7...hoping to hold on to the S4!! I don't like the AdBlue requirements of the TDI (something very easy to do yourself...if you don't mind the need to pick up 23 liters of urine for your vehicle every 10,000 miles...for me that would be about 4 times a year...and I love the 3.0 TFSI...so for me it's a no brainer...SuperCharged all the way...and you have to get the S-Line...much more HP...saves about a second on 0-60 w/no difference in MPG.

But I guess you might be able to APR it (at some point) and go for the 400+ HP...just not sure if the tranny in the Q7 can handle that kind of HP.

Congrats IAS5 on the new Q7!!!

Did you trade in the S4? How much did you get for it? I probably won't hold onto my S4 for a long time neither - when something that's better that I can upgrade to (RS5, next M3?) comes along, I'd probably just trade it in or sell it. Overall I can't see myself holding onto it for more than 4 years. Probably 2 or 3 years.

Congrats Steve, Q7 3.0T nice rig!

I won't get an RS4 or RS5 unless it has an MT and FI.

I've passed those years also. We simply use our Q7 extensively for hauling "stuff" that normally do not fit well in trunks; we go on trips with family and friends (makes it more fun with all on one car vs. two), and would rather be using this type of vehicle in the winter, than a smaller one--personal preference. It's actually a great ride.

Plus it's the best damn looking crossover/suv/rig/semi/"whatever it's classified" vehicle in its space. Again, my .02.

Not going to try for the 1g cloverleaf, however...

My S4 was a Prestige model, with the S-tronic, nappa leather, Drive select, and it MSRP'd at $61k.

With 8k on the clock, no mods, i traded it in with my '07 Q7, and got the '11 Q7 and a check back.

However the dealer applied the $$ between the three cars is up to him, asthe only way i negotiate is "my car plus a number." I know what invoice/retail is on the new car, and trade/pp/retail are/are on my car(s).

Because it was a three car deal, i would guess that i was probably $4k below retail of current 2010 S4's in the classifieds, similarly equipped.

I also had the benefit of paying $0 for tax, since both trades exceeded the new Q.

all in all, i feel it was a very respctable trade, from the consumer side. Could i have sold outright? I'm sure i could, but i would have had to received a bid $2k higher, immediately, since there were two others chomping at the bit to buy the Q7. It wasn't sales tactic either; the sales manager has been straight with me the last 7 years. the last Q7 Sline (Phantom Black) that came in last week had a "Hold" on it the next morning after it arrived. and i did not want to order and wait 3-5 months either.

How's that for a short answer?

It's not that i cannot find one, i just do not want to deal with the fact that the closest R8 authorized dealer is over 200 miles away, and my neighborhood dealer (2 miles) is not even authorized to change a wiper blade on one.....
