Default 2004 OnStar and Motorola Setup

Hi. Is this system obselete already, or can another phone/cradle be mounted in the center armrest?

Is the Onstar analog, and no longer functional on 2004s?

The cradle says " V60c/ V60t" which are only carried by Verizon apparently, and might not even be GPS enabled, thus Verizon might not even hook up an old one of those phpones. Please help!!

Default Handsfree Phone Options - long

I have been going through this with my 2003 S8 which came with the same empty Motorola cradle. There are three options available. Four if you include finding an old Motorola V70 and sticking it in the cradle.

1. After market Bluetooth. There are a number of kits available from Motorola, Parrot, Blue Ant, etc. These wire in to your existing system and allow you to use many different Bluetooth enabled phones. However, you have to install a new handsfree microphone and you cannot use your multi-function steering wheel MFSW control buttons. Paul W has a great writeup on Audipages.

2. Bluetooth puck. There is apparently a Bluetooth puck designed for BMW's that had the same Motorola cradle. You plug this puck into the existing cradle and then can use this to pair with a number of Bluetooth phones. Apparently this does not work with some phones, and many have reported problems downloading their phonebooks and it does not work with the MFSW.

3. OEM Bluetooth. You are right - your OnStar module is analog and if it is still working it will not be shortly. However, you can swap an Audi Bluetooth module with the OnStar unit. This will allow you to retain the existing handsfree microphone and use your MFSW. This works with a number of phones. There is a kit available in the U.S. only that provides all the bits to do this swap. As I am in Canada I have sourced the parts and am in the middle of doing the install.

I hope to have a writeup posted to Audipages shortly. Below is the URL for the kit.

If you want to spend a few hours searching the navigation forum http://www.navplus.us/forums/ there is all sorts of useful information.

Hope this helps. Happy reading!

http://store.nsxjr.com/</a
