Default Just got an Audi

It,s a 1996 Quattro V6

The good is the engine sounds healthy!

Things i noticed are

Need brakes done,
power steering doesn't work at all,
driver side power window doesnt work
automatic shift unit needs to be replaced stick broke off
one wheel bearing is bad

my main concern is there is alot of oil under the car havent had the time checking it out where it comes from, you guys may know a common issue

and the exhaust is leaking somewhere!

thats what i found without taking the engine cover off may get some more surprises, when i start looking closer?

what you guys think?

Brakes aren't too tough, might need rotors turned or replaced.

Power steering will take some investigation, lots of things could be wrong and maybe it just needs fluid.

Power window fixes are pretty simple. Lots of info on the forum and a good video here

Not sure about your shifter.

Wheel bearings, here's a video.

The oil is most likely coming from bad half moon cam seals and valve cover gaskets. I assume it's a 2.8l

The exhaust is most likely leaking from the flex joints. The muffler shop can weld new ones in for you.

You might want to slide by your friendly auto parts store and have them pull the codes for you as a starting point. MIght not be all bad.

Good luck!

I hate to say this, but that motor is just a leaker. My 96 started leaking at 100,000 miles. Replaced all front seals, valve cover gaskets, half moons, but the head gaskets are known to leak externally on that motor. I drove that motor to 270,000 before I sold it. It was bullet-proof.

100% agree that the 2.8 is a leaker but I think with some careful attention to the problem areas one can make it relatively free of those leaks. New seals under the valve covers and the correct application of black RTV on the valve cover gaskets solved my drips and for nearly 2 years now it is still leak free. I just visited with they guy who bought it from me and he has not had any new drips. Sort of wish I had the car back. Oh well.

Check blauparts.com for the valve cover gaskets and cam seals. They have the best kits and prices. They also send you pics and step by step instructions. I just ordered a front and rear suspension kit for $339.95

I discovered after years of pouring oil in my 2.8 that the suction pump (little black Y pipe on the back of the engine) was clogged. $20 and a scraped knuckle later, the oil consumption has dropped to nearly zero.

My engine is the 2000 ATQ with 173K miles on it BTW:
