When in doubt change the belt. And a simple visual inspection is rarely suficient.

It's not the timing belt to be worried about, it's the plastic-impeller water pump (don't get another one of those), or the tensioner.

Default Watch that camshaft position sensor on the 1.8T

i replaces my timing belt in an ‘05 A4 B6 Q 1.8T after doing a valve job when the camshaft adjuster replacement wasn’t done properly. Life was good as I got her back on the road, the engine running beautifully at 124k miles with a body and interior that was worth the $6k I paid for it, One day, I punched it hard coming out of a neighborhood on to a major street, heard a wretching, grinding and felt my car lurch in time to hear “ping, ping, ping.”

The camshaft position sensor bolts MUST have lock-tite and MUST BE left to dry for a day before going on full throttle! Know of those little bolts went into my lower timing belt cover, got caught between the block and the crank pulley, chewed the back ½ of the crank pulley completely off (the cup part that sits over the crankshaft seal) causing a stuck stop in my timing belt, which practically shredded the belt when hitting fragments of the crank pulley and that stupid little screw which left three exhaust valves bent. I’d had the head back on my engine for a total of 2 weeks since the first valve job. Just getting the bumper into the “service position” was a chore. I felt like it was me who was in the service position the more time I spent under that car’s hood. Just a heads up...good luck!
