My batt light is on in my 01 a6 2.7 t . Just put a brand new battery in a few month ago . What do u guys think is wrong ? Alternator ? Andcwhat am Iooking at damage wise for costs?

1. check voltage at battery with a volt-ohm meter w/ engine running. it should be approx. 13.5-14.5v if alternator is charging properly.

2. if belt is tight, it's likely alternator.

3. not a bad idea to check battery terminals and all (+) and (-) connections, including ground strap to chassis at battery.

Alternator is most likely. Time for some diagnostics. Alternator itself is about $200

Parasitic draw somewhere?

had a similar issue and after a diag. we found that the radio was pulling 0.500xx from the battery instead of the usual 0.001xx when the car is turned off ..so the battery was draining after a day or so.

The radio was replaced under warranty, but such a strange issue..

To be clear, the battery light is on when the engine is running, or when it's off? My money is on cables.
