It's a cost vs benefit thing...my wife's X3 didn't have it and aftermarket solutions were pricy. Since I really didn't want the remote clipped to the visor, I just mounted a momentary switch wired into the remote and stashed it away. Worked great for about $5!

My 335i homelink is at the rear mirror. In BMW, I could understand if you change the whole mirror could cost more becasue you will get the whole rear mirror with auto dim mirror, compass, homelink, and the prewire alarm light. But I thought the homelink in Audi is at the sun visor, I don't understand why it can cost so much.

The sensor is somewhere near by grill and wiring goes to the buttons on overhead console.
You could go and buy the overhead console with homelink buttons and wire aftermarket transmitter to one of those buttons, a bit like x330i did...
