New Tires Q5 - Which Michelin?
#11
Starting to look for new shoes as well for my 17’ Q5. The Michelin Latitude Sports 255/45/20 101W (AO) that came with the car are getting close to worn out at 16k mi.5/32” left. Only 2/32” left to the wear bars.I replaced the original summer tires on my 16’ Q5 with Conti DWS06 and was pretty happy with them.Heard a lot of good things since then both here and on Tire Rack about the Michelin Premier LTX and decided those would be next.Have run Michelins for years on past vehicles and was never disappointed.Since I last looked though, the ratings for the Premier LTX on Tire Rack have dropped for some reason especially the “would you recommend” and “treadwear” categories. Lots of reviewers are complaining about poor tread wear and some are saying they’re noisy for whatever that’s worth. Saw 2 recs on this thread for the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ so I checked them out as well. The numbers for them on Tire rack look much better than the Premier but they’re in a totally different performance category so the comparison chart I pulled up may not mean much. Apples and oranges?I’m leaning towards the A/S 3+ now.Anyone know why the Premiers are not rated as high as they used to be?

Tire rack is very useful but never overlook the fact that they're a tire selling monster. They don't represent the full range of options. They have their "preferred" suppliers and overlook completely or downplay many solid alternatives from Bridgestone, Yokohama, Toyo, Nokian etc. That's capitalism for ya !

I recently put on a set of Nokian ZLine A/S SUV tires on my TDI. Nice tire, aliittle hum but I'm okay with it as it means it's working. I'm a fan of Nokian and it's a fairly new offer so I'm giving it a try. I replaced a set of Mich Preimier LTX with 30k on them. Quietest tire I ever had. Excellent performance in the wet. Disappointed in the wear mileage. .02
